Packing for a Weekend Away

Packing for a weekend trip is not easy. There is always a battle within yourself to "always be prepared" and "only bring the necessities." A lot of what goes into packing depends on your destination and your style. Here, we will give you a basic list of the necessities plus a few add-ons that will tailor your weekend wardrobe to your destination.
Packing Basics
First, ditch the big suitcase. You are only going away for a weekend, not a week. Relax. Instead, choose a small carry-on suitcase or large tote bag.
Next, make sure your most important are in place. This includes your ID, credit cards, checkbook, and any medications. Place them in the main purse you intend to carry with you. We suggest a classic and chic crossbody bag in a neutral color as it is good for day and evening.
Pack your toiletry case with the necessary items. Don't forget your toothbrush, toothpaste, lip balm, contact lenses and case, contacts solution, antibacterial gel, travel sized face wash, deoderant, moisturizer and body lotion. Carry your cosmetic basics such as lip gloss, lip stick, powder, eyeliner and a neutral eye shadow palette.
Select your traveling clothes. We suggest wearing jeans, a comfortable t-shirt in a neutral color, and a jacket or cardigan with ballet shoes. Wear small dangling pearl earrings as they go with every outfit.
Put your media accessories such as cell phone charger, tablet, and camera in a well padded case.
Lastly, pack a pair of shorts, tank tops in black and white, black capris, a nice dress or skirt, and a pair of pajamas. Remember to pack your undergarments as well: two bras in black and beige, three or four pairs of underwear and two pairs of socks.
Now that you have the basics, here are a few add-ons that will match any destination.
For the beach, add:
  1. Sun screen
  2. Flip flops
  3. Sunglasses
  4. Hat
  5. Bathing suit and cover-up
For the snow, add:
  1. Two long sleeved shirts
  2. A pair of long underwear
  3. A thick sweater
  4. A warm jacket
  5. Snow boots
  6. A cozy scarf and hat
For a road trip, add:
  1. A cooler with snacks and drinks
  2. Paper towels
  3. Trash bags
  4. GPS
For a big city trip, add:
  1. Comfortable walking shoes
  2. A clutch or evening bag for nights out
  3. A third pair of dressier shoes
A few more tips:
  1. If you must bring your laptop, don't forget to place it in a sleeve and in its own carry-on. Traveling is hard on electronics and it is best to take care they are well cushioned.

  2. Pack your toiletries in plastic bags before putting them in a larger bag. In the event of spillage, this will keep them from leaking all over the place.

  3. Research your destination beforehand so you know what to expect from the weather.
Packing for travel doesn't have to be such a headache. Remember, the weekend getaway is all about relaxation and leaving the stress behind!
